The Blogger

For those of you wondering why I am writing this blog and what would possibly qualify me to do so, I’ll tell you a bit about where I’m coming from.  First, I’ll tell you what I’m NOT.  I’m not a disgruntled client of a bad attorney, looking to make life miserable for lawyers.  I realize there are a lot of you out there that are, and an hopeful that the information shared on this site will be of some assistance.  Knowledge is, after all, power.

I am a paralegal and legal administrator.  I have nearly 20 years experience working in law firms, and a dozen years before that working in health care administration.  I have a master’s degree in political science and a bachelor’s degree in sociology.  I probably should have gone to law school, but the stars don’t always line up just right.

I learned most everything I know about the law while working in law firms in Las Vegas, Nevada.  And if there was ever a good place to learn about the dark side of any profession, Las Vegas would be it.  I have worked on cases defending people accused of capital murder, DUI, child abuse and just about every crime from A-Z.  I have worked on divorces, child custody matters, adoptions, termination of parental rights, child support and all other aspects of family law, including appeals.  With my medical background, I also enjoyed working on personal injury and medical malpractice cases.

But the most interesting work experience I ever had was working for a firm in Las Vegas that sued other lawyers for legal malpractice and made complaints against lawyers to the State Bar for ethical misconduct.  Oh, the stories that would come through the doors.  Over time, I’ll share some of these amazing stories and hopefully they will help provide insight for you.

My purpose is not to trash lawyers, although that can be fun at times!  I want to open your eyes to what can be going on and provide you with the information you need to keep your legal situation progressing and your lawyer on the straight and narrow.  The more transparent any profession is, and the fewer secrets they hold, the better off the client or consumer. You may even be able to handle some legal situations without a lawyer at all!

Finally, I am an associate member of the American Bar Association and the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility.  I also subscribe to a number of legal publications in order to keep up with the latest developments in law practice and legal ethics.

I currently live in South Carolina with my husband and seven pets (2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 sugar gliders).

I welcome your comments, questions and topic suggestions!

Nicely done. Check mine out. Of course it deals with a different focus.

Nevada is nirvana for unethical lawyers and what they can’t do there they can in California.

Good site! We added a link. What’s a sugar glider?

Thank you so much for your interest and support! In answer to your question, a sugar glider is a small marsupial, native to Australia and Papua New Guinea. They are commonly called “pocket pets” because they will hang out in your pocket during the day (they are nocturnal).
